Leatherneck news and notes...

A lot has been happening in the world of Western athletics lately...

- Congrats to Kyle Glazier for his CoSIDA Academic All-District honor. He'll go on the national ballot for Academic All-America. A few other Leathernecks were on the ballot but the Big 10 took most of the offensive spots. Sorry, but Matt Barr's academics and athletic accomplishments this year are way better than the QB from Indiana.

- After much speculation about where South Dakota will wind up, it became official yesterday that the Coyotes will stay in the Summit League and join the MVFC for football starting in 2012. Their move strengthens both conferences and will be a much easier trip than to Southern Utah, which is leaving the Summit League at the same time.

- Men's basketball and women's basketball looked good in their exhibition wins this week. It was good to get everyone playing time in preparation for the season. The women are at home Sunday.

- Good luck to coach Tony Guinn and the women's soccer team this weekend at the Summit League tournament. Should be an interesting first round game against Oakland, and you know the ladies want some revenge for a recent regular season loss to the Grizzlies.

- Football will be on the road recruiting this weekend with the bye week. They'll get back to it on Sunday getting ready for the Southern Illinois game next week.

- Lots of events going on the weekend of the Northern Iowa game on November 20. Stay tuned to the website for more details.

And since it's Friday of a bye week I'm looking forward to a day off tomorrow. A great chance to watch football and again rake leaves in my yard.

Until next time, Go Leathernecks
